Description:
With the growth of enterprise bargaining and individual employment arrangements, organisations are increasingly focusing on workplace employment relations. Practitioners of human resource management and/or industrial relations must find ways of increasing organisational flexibility and productivity while at the same time recognising employees’ needs. This practically-oriented unit develops students’ IR knowledge and teaches specific research skills in workplace employment relations – especially topical issues such as individual and collective bargaining, and disciplining and dismissal - in small, medium and large enterprises in both the public and private sector. The unit incorporates site visits to an employers’ association, a union or peak union council, and an industrial tribunal.
