INTRODUCTION
The Bachelor of Business degree has been designed to enable students to succeed in their chosen business profession. The course structure allows students to choose one or two major areas of study from accounting, business law, economics, employment relations, finance, hospitality management, management, management of information technology,marketing, sport management and tourism . A feature of the course is the Business Edge units: a set of integrated general and professional skills units designed to link academic and professional pathways for educational development. The Faculty offers a supportive environment with expert staff who are committed to quality teaching and research.
After the first semester of full-time study, students choose a Major, Double Major or Supplementary program they wish to follow. Currently, the following Majors are available:
- Accounting: This Major has been designed for students seeking careers as professional accountants or in any financial area of business. The major combines sound accounting principles with practical business applications.
- Business Law: This Major supports students' employability in careers such as accounting, management and marketing.
- Economics: This Major is designed for students intending to pursue a career as business economists or economic consultants in a wide range of corporate management roles.
- Employment Relations: This Major is designed for students seeking employment in the public and private sector in the specialist areas of industrial relations, human resource management, advocacy and research.
- Finance: This Major has been designed for students who propose to follow a career in finance. Graduates in finance are to be found in stockbroking, investment management, financial advisory roles and the finance division of all types and sizes of companies.
- Hospitality Management: This Major is designed to provide students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to function as business professionals and industry leaders in contempory organisations.
- Human Resource Management: This Major provides the theoretical and practical foundations for a human resource management practitioner.
- International Business: This Major has been designed for students intending to pursue a business career with an international focus.
- Management: This Major has been designed to prepare students for a future in management and focuses on understanding people at work and how organisations operate.
- Management of Information Technology: The effective use of IT is increasingly critical to business; this major will address the development and management of technology in today's fast changing business landscape.
- Marketing: This Major has been designed to provide appropriate education for students seeking a wide range of positions in the marketing, sales and marketing communications sector.
- Sport Management: This Major is designed to provide students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to function as business professionals and industry leaders in contemporary sport agencies.
- Tourism Management: This Major is designed to provide students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to function as business professionals and industry leaders in contemporary tourism or travel organisations.
The Supplementary program offers students a choice of units to complete their degree. Options available include a Supporting Major (from another Faculty), a Minor program, or a selection of Elective units from those offered within the Bachelor of Business award or (with approval) from other awards of the Faculty of Business and Law or (with approval) from outside the Faculty. |
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Standard University admission requirements apply. As admission to the Bachelor of Business degree at Mt Lawley and Joondalup is competitive, meeting ECU minimum admission requirements does not guarantee enrolment.
ADVANCED STANDING
Students who have completed equivalent units at another institution may apply for advanced standing for those units.
Students enrolled prior to 1 January 2007, who are returning to study in year 2007 after a period of deferral must seek advice from the Faculty Undergraduate Student Centre.

COURSE STRUCTURE
The Bachelor of Business degree requires a minimum of 360 credit points (24 units) and normally requires three years of full-time study or the part-time equivalent.
The degree has the following main components:
- Business Core units - total of 75 credit points (5 units),
- Business Edge units - total of 60 credit points (4 units),
- Major Program in a specialised area listed above of 120 credit points (8 units) (including a business core unit of 15 credit points),
- Supplementary Program - total of 120 credit points (8 units) consisting of :
- a Second Major from the Bachelor of Business, or
- a Supporting Major from within the Faculty or from another Faculty; or
- a Minor program plus elective; or
- an Elective program.
NOTE: All Bachelor of Business students must complete a minimum of 60 credit points at third year level and no more than 180 points at first year level.
YEAR ONE: Business Core Students must complete 75 credit points (5 units) selected from: ACC1100 Accounting I 15 ECF1110 Economics I 15 ECF1120 Finance I 15 LAW1100 Legal Framework I 15 MAN1100 Management I 15 MIS1600 e-Business Systems 15 MKT1600 Marketing Principles&Practices 15 Major Program Major programs consist of 120 credit points (8 units) of study (including a core unit of 15 credit points). All units listed for the Major must be completed to satisfy the requirements for that Major. Students should note the "unitset" code listed under each field. This code should be quoted on Enrolment and Unit Selection forms where appropriate.
