SCHOOL OF EDUCATION | |||
Credit Points: 12 | |||
Description: | |||
Authentic assessment is central to culturally responsive and inclusive teaching and learning and yet research confirms that classroom teachers do not have access to comprehensive assessment literacies. Module One of this unit is designed to introduce and enhance the pre-service teacher's knowledge and understanding of authentic assessment practices and literacies with a view to more professionally monitoring student learning. A specific focus will be on assessment literacies that are student responsive and culturally inclusive in their design and purpose. Further, assessment practices that are congruent with outcomes based learning will be explored. Module Two will investigate contemporary mediums of reporting student learning outcomes to significant stakeholders including government agencies, employing authorities, parents/caregivers and students. The purposes, literacies and power dimensions of reporting will be explored with a view to enhancing the pre-service students professional knowledge and expertise in this area. Further, cross-culturally orientations to reporting will be explored.
