MABUTH  Visual Art Major  

This unit set is available in the following courses:
Y40 BACHELOR OF ARTS

The major in Visual Art allows students to specialise in practices such as painting, printmaking or textiles; or work across inter-disciplinary pathways in a range of activities within visual arts. This major also develops studio and professional skills necessary to work as a practising artist, including exhibiting work and presenting portfolios.

FOUNDATION
Students undertaking a major in Visual Art must complete at least two of the following units in the foundation programme:

CCI1102 Visual and Graphic Fundamentals 15
CMM1101 Reading Media Texts 15
SST1210 Event Management 15
SWK1102 Philosophy, Knowledge and Ethics 15
VIS1303 Introduction to Drawing 15
VIS1305 Materials and Methods: Approaches to Studio 15
WRT1103 Creativity and Writing 15
 
YEAR TWO / YEAR THREE UNITS
Students undertaking a major in Visual Art must complete the following eight units (120 credit points):
 
VIS2505 Printmaking 15
VIS2507 Sculpture 15
VIS2509 Painting 15
VIS2530 Field and Studio 15
VIS2545 Artists Books: Materiality of Word and Image 15
VIS2601 Art in Context 15
VIS3503 Creativity and Reflexivity 15
VIS3602 Studio and Professional Practice 15
 
Please note that all units are available on a two year rotation. Students in the first year of the course may commence units at level two or three.
 
A minor in Graphic Design is available to support the Visual Art major.
Some opportunites for curatorial placements are available as an elective.
