M46 Graduate Diploma of Geriatric Medicine

INTRODUCTION

The Graduate Diploma of Geriatric Medicine equips medical practitioners with the knowledge and skills to provide high quality and contemporary care for the older person.  The course has a clinical focus, emphasising the common problems encountered with ageing. In recognition of the importance of restoration and maintainance of function and quality of life both in older adults who are unwell as well as those who are healthy, preventive aspects are explored within an evidence-based context.  The concepts of multidisciplinary team care and the structure of healthcare are explored and the student is encouraged to consider these aspects within his/her own health system.
