Y29 Bachelor of International Hotel and Resort Management

Provides students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills for a career in the hotel and resort sector. This industry-based course is designed to provide students with the essential knowledge, competencies and professional attitudes required by management in contemporary hotel and resort organisations.
It commences with an introduction to the hotel and resort sector in the context of the broader tourism and hospitality industries and focuses on the application of key aspects of marketing, e-business systems, service management, financial management, research methods, and business development.
Specialist units focus upon commercial food service management, food and beverage management, rooms division management, facility management, contemporary issues and professional industry experience. This course also provides students with opportunity to apply for a one semester internship placement with a leading hotel or resort business.

 

 
Career opportunities exist in operations and management in diverse areas, including food and beverage, front office, rooms division, resort and gaming, event and conference and hotel and restaurant.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The Bachelor of International Hotel and Resort Management degree requires a minimum of 360 credit points (24 units) and normally requires three years of full-time study or the part-time equivalent.

 

The degree has the following main components:

  1. a Core Program of 300 credit points (20 units); and
  2. a Supplementary Program of 60 credit points (4 units) consisting of:
  • a two unit (30cp each) industry internship placement or
  •  four units as approved by the course coordinator
