MPE2101 Mathematics and Numeracy 1
SCHOOL OF EDUCATION
Credit Points: 15

Description:
This unit is designed to help students examine their beliefs about mathematics while at the same time improving their own mathematical ability. Students will be introduced to the notion of 'working mathematically' and will be given the opportunity to experience a different way to teach mathematics. While the emphasis of this unit is on teaching mathematics students will be expected to develop their own mathematical ability by participating in workshops designed to show how content may be taught in a working mathematically context. The make up and design of the West Australian mathematics curriculum will be reviewed as part of the learning process and students will be given the opportunity to see the enactment of the curriculum in children’s learning environments.
