K39 Bachelor of Education (Kindergarten through Primary)

The Bachelor of Education, Kindergarten through Primary course is unique in that graduates will have the skills, knowledge and understandings to equip them to teach across the 3.5 -12 age range. The course qualifies students to teach kindergarten, pre-primary, junior, middle and upper primary levels.

The award is granted after the successful completion of four years of full time study and aims to develop professional knowledge, skills, dispositions and generic attributes.

The degree includes compulsory units studied by all students, one foundation unit taught outside the school of education, and the opportunity for students to focus on a choice of curriculum areas within customised units in the fourth year. In the third and fourth years, students may develop a focus that prepares them to teach in different kinds of settings, including public or private schools, city or remote schools, schools that draw children from differing social and ethnic circumstances.

Central to this course is an extensive program of Professional Practice in schools/centres which culminates in the Assistant Teacher Program in the final year.  All students are required to adhere to the School of Education's Professional Practice Rules and Procedures and Code of Professional Conduct for ECU Pre-service Teachers which can be accessed at: http://www.education.ecu.edu.au/prac/. All Professional Practices are undertaken on a full-time basis and students are required to be available during the scheduled Professional Practice  periods as per the School of Education Calendar which is also available on the website. Please note that practicum units have been designated as a fundamental course requirement and may only be attempted once unless otherwise determined by the Board of Examiners.
