DIS3106 Contemporary Issues in Disability

Description:

This unit offers students the opportunity to discuss and examine current issues surrounding disability, disability services and the lives of people with disabilities in our communities. It provides challenges in reflecting upon, and critically analysing the current service systems for people with disabilities, and looks at the benefits and deficiencies in services and current values which affect the lives of people with disabilities and indeed our whole society. Issues surrounding respite, advocacy and lobbying, accommodation, employment, and avocational activities, and issues of inclusion in education and the community are examined. The complexities and sensitivities surrounding safeguarding and vulnerability, guardianship and administration, sexuality and parenting with a disability issues are also explored.
