This unit introduces students to the principles of managing environmental issues at the ecosystem level. It deals with the complexity of ecosystem responses to human activity, within the context of systems theory. The unit critically evaluates the notion of ‘holism’ in environmental managements, and focuses on forested ecosystems (where much of ecosystem theory has been developed), as its practical component. | |||
