M47 Master of Palliative Care

INTRODUCTION

Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients facing life-threatening illness and their significant others. This is achieved through the consideration of the whole person including physical, psychosocial and spiritual dimensions of care and attention to the prevention and relief of suffering.
 
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants require a relevant health degree from a recognised institution.
 
COURSE LOCATION
This course is available on Joondalup Campus.

This course is available by Full-time, or Part-time mode.

COURSE STRUCTURE

Students will complete a total of nine units as per the below course structure:
 
STAGE 1
MMP5101 Evidence Based Practice 20 
 
One unit selected from the two choices below:
MCP5010 Disease Processes 20 
or
DCP5101 Issues in Palliative and Cancer Care 20 
 
One unit selected from the two choices below:
MCP5011 Clinical Management 1 * 20 
or
DCP5102 Allied Health in Palliative Care 20 
 
Successful completion of Stage 1 results in eligibility to exit with a Postgraduate Certificate of Palliative Care.
 
STAGE 2
One unit selected from the two choices below:
MCP5012 Clinical Management 2 * 20 
or
DCP5203 Symptom Control in Palliative Care 20 
 
One unit selected from the two choices below:
MCP5013 Clinical Management 3 * 20 
or
PRH5102 Clinical Nutrition Management 20 
 
MCP5014 Counselling, Family and Other Issues 20 
 
Successful completion of Stage 2 results in eligibility to exit with a Postgraduate Diploma of Palliative Care.
 
STAGE 3
PRH5304 Complementary and Alternative Medicines # 20

* The Basic Certificate Course in Palliative Care Medicine course obtained at the Pain and Palliative Care Society (Calicut, India) enables exemption from these units.
