017 Diploma in Language Studies

INTRODUCTION

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Students must be enrolled concurrently in an undergraduate degree.

COURSE LOCATION
This course is available on Mt Lawley Campus.

MODE OF STUDY
This course is available by Full-time, or Part-time mode.

MODE OF DELIVERY
This course is available in the following mode of delivery - On-campus.

The language component is part-time only alongside studies in another degree.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The course will comprise eight units drawn from the undergraduate major in the chosen language, commencing at the appropriate level (Beginners or Post-TEE), as set out in the corresponding BA major structure.  The course may include no more than one of the background units listed in the major which bear a code (i.e., LST, INT, ECU) other than that of the language of study (FRE prefix for French and JLS prefix for Japanese).  The Diploma must include at least two third year coded units in the language of study.

The Diploma is studied concurrently with an undergraduate degree and will normally add one year to the duration of the student’s course.  The sequence of units must be approved by the School of International, Cultural and Community Studies and the student’s ‘home’ faculty.  For most effective language learning the sequence of language units will usually be one unit per semester throughout the four years of the combined diploma and degree program.

Unit enrolments each semester must be selected in consultation with the coordinator of the student’s undergraduate degree program in conjunction with the coordinator of the relevant language study program.
