EDS3100 Teaching Children With Special Needs

Description:
The main focus of the unit is on the issues and principles associated with the education of children with a range of diverse needs in K – 7 classrooms or centres. The first aim is to develop preservice teacher knowledge and awareness of the needs and assessment of children with intellectual, physical, sensory, emotional and/or behavioural disabilities and students with literacy or learning difficulties. The second aim is to give preservice teachers an opportunity to develop specific strategies for teaching children with diverse needs, including those who may be gifted or talented. Current policies in the area of the education of children with diverse needs in an outcomes focused environment will be examined.
