728 / 699 Post Graduate Diploma of Nursing (Mental Health)

The aim of the Post Graduate Diploma of Nursing (Mental Health) is to provide the opportunity for registered nurses to develop the knowledge, skill and clinical competencies required to deliver mental health nursing care, and gain eligibility to register with the Nurses Board of WA on Division 1 of the Register as a Registered Mental Health Nurse.

 

COURSE LOCATION AND MODE OF STUDY

The course is available by full-time or part-time study on Churchlands campus.  Most units are available in the external mode.  The two mental health practicum units are available in the internal mode or external mode by negotiation with the course coordinator.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Entrants are required to hold a minimum of a Bachelor of Nursing degree or an acceptable equivalent, be currently registered with the Nurses Board of Western Australia (or Australian State equivalent) and have a minimum of one year post-registration experience or equivalent.

 

 
The course comprises four coursework units and two clinical practice units.
 
Stage 1
NNS5102 Interpersonal Relationships in the Therapeutic Setting 20 
NNS5105 Contemporary Issues in Mental Health Care 20 
NSP5110 Mental Health Nursing Practice 1 20 
 
Stage 2
NSP5210 Mental Health Nursing Practice 2 20 
AHP5101 Advanced Health Practice 20 
 
One unit selected from:
RES5102 Research Preparation: Qualitative Approaches 20 
or
RES5103 Research Preparation: Quantitative Research Methods 20 
 
Successful completion of the program will contribute towards Year 1 of the Master of Nursing by coursework.
