G79 Bachelor of Contemporary Arts

This degree program is primarily designed to prepare students for a career as artists, creators, researchers, curators etc and in the teaching of the creative and performing arts.

 

Students will specialise in either Visual Arts, Contemporary Performance, Contemporary Fashion studies. Students combine professional education studies with specialist content studies. Graduates will have a qualification in the contemporary arts and will be a highly skilled and knowledgeable practitioners allowing them to access a wide range of career-related opportunities.

 

Students in Geraldton are given the opportunity to study the Visual Arts major through the Geraldton Universities Centre (GUC).

Standard University Admission requirements apply.
 
SPECIAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

In addition, students will be required to have a portfolio interview or audition.
 
COURSE LOCATION
This course is available on Mt Lawley Campus.

Visual Arts major is available at Geraldton campus.

This course is available by Full-time, or Part-time mode.

COURSE STRUCTURE
 
FOUNDATION
Students must complete the following core units:
CCA1101 Contexts of Modernity 15
CCA1102 Representation and Interpretation 15
CCA1103 Creativity: Theory, Practice and History 15
CMM1108 Communications and Digital Technology 15
 
And 60 credit points of level 1 electives recommended by each major programme
or
Electives from outside School of Communications&Contemporary Arts (up to 30 credit points total)
 
YEAR TWO / YEAR THREE UNITS
 
In the second year, students embark on their Major programs. Major programs consist of 120CP worth of study. Students must complete one or two Major programs within School of Communications&Contemporary Arts. In the Bachelor of Contemporary Arts the following majors are available:

  • Contemporary Fashion
  • Contemporary Performance
  • Visual Arts
