Description:

The unit introduces students to the role and function of theoretical thinking in Social Work practice with particular emphasise on the utility of social work theories in facilitating appropriate and effective practice in regional, rural and remote areas.

 

The unit extends students introduction to theoretical thinking in practice from the unit Social Work Theory and Practice 1. The unit focuses upon theoretical thinking in practice as a reflective practice to guide and inform thinking. Students develop skills in analysing and critiquing Social Work and other professional disciplines theories of practice. Specific theories of Social Work practice are identified and studied on the basis of their historical and contemporary contribution to Social Work practice. On completion of the unit students will have a knowledge of Social Work theories and skills in analysing and critiquing theoretical models. Students will have an ability to integrate theoretical knowledge to inform and substantiate their professional accountable practice and their personal practice model.
