The unit will introduce students to the practice of Social Work as a human service profession, with particular reference to the practice of social work within rural, regional and remote locations. Students will be introduced to the concept of professionalism and the characteristics of professional practice. Students will examine the professional context of social work practice within a historical and contemporary context. The unit will introduce students to frameworks of professional practice. Students will develop a beginning understanding of the models of professionally accountable practice and personal practice models as they relate to their beginning development as Social Workers. The unit will examine the role of theoretical thinking in guiding and directing professionally informed practice. Students will develop beginning skills in reflective practice in relation to themselves as Social Workers and the impact of their practice on others. Students will be introduced to a variety of Social Work intervention methods. The unit will focus upon the development of interpersonal skills and the application of interpersonal skills in a variety of practice settings, knowledge development in the program. | |||
