C34 Bachelor of Arts Honours
The Bachelor of Arts Honours is a one year course for students who have demonstrated strong academic ability in their undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree. It consists of coursework and the preparation of a thesis. Honours candidates are accepted in fields offered as majors in the relevant undergraduate Bachelor of Arts course. Mount Lawley campus offers the following fields: English, History, Language Studies (French and Japanese), Politics and International Relations, Contemporary Fashion and Textiles, Visual Arts and Writing. Bunbury campus offers Literature and Writing, Media and Visual Art. 

 

All theses follow the ECU Guidelines, that is 15,000 words are required (with a maximum of 17,000 words). Students with a language major (advanced) who wish to write the thesis in French (10,000 to 15,000 words) or Japanese (20,000 to 30,000 letters) require approval from the Honours Coordinator. The thesis for Contemporary Fashion and Textiles, Visual Arts and Writing will consist of a creative project and a related critical essay/exegesis.

 
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible for admission to Honours, students should normally have a minimum undergraduate course average of 70 per cent. In some circumstances, students with lower averages will be able to enter Honours if they have demonstrated a particular aptitude and commitment to independent research. In these cases students should contact the Honours Coordinator directly to discuss possible admission.

 

 
SPECIAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
A place in the Honours course can only be offered to an eligible applicant if suitable supervision is available for the proposed research project.

This course is available on Mt Lawley, and Bunbury Campuses.
 
MODE OF STUDY
This course is available by Full-time, or Part-time mode.
 
MODE OF DELIVERY
This course is available in the following mode of delivery - On-campus.
 
COURSE STRUCTURE

The Honours program comprises three units of coursework (60 credit points) and a thesis (60 credit points). The thesis may use the traditional research model or the creative project plus critical essay/exegesis model.

 
YEAR ONE - SEMESTER 1
Complete the following two units (40 credit points):
CCA5101 Research Preparation 20 
CCA5102 Literature Review 20 
 
Plus complete one unit (20 credit points) from the following:
CCA5103 Seminar Series 20 
CCA5110 Directed Study 20 
 
YEAR ONE - SEMESTER 2
CCA5204 Thesis Preparation 1 30 
CCA5205 Thesis Preparation 2 30 
 
Students electing to study the course part-time should consult with the Honours coordinator to determine an appropriate study plan and selection of units.
