L35 Doctor of Health Science (Clinical Leadership and Management)

The Doctor of Health Science (Clinical Leadership and Management) uses a reciprocal engagement strategy with industry, whereby course materials have been designed to address specific clinical leadership and management issues drawn from practice. By undertaking this course students will advance their knowledge of leadership theories, concepts, and techniques to produce positive and innovative organisational outcomes, meet organisational goals and objectives, and support research and collaborative experiences, which attend to national health reforms and industry needs. This award focuses on such topics as contemporary leadership roles, strategic vision and planning, interpretation of clinical data and ethical leadership in healthcare, in addition health management concepts and practices are applied. Students will participate in authentic learning and assessment activities, giving them the opportunity to apply their gained knowledge and skills in a professional health care setting.

 

This professional doctorate encompasses a coursework and a research component leading to the submission of a thesis. The coursework comprises four compulsory units. The thesis unit develops the student's personal competencies in critical analysis and scholarly writing relevant to their clinical area.

 

People who choose this course are likely to be employed or seeking employment in leadership positions in the healthcare industry.

 
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Masters by Research

or

Masters by Coursework (with a 2/3 research component)

or

Bachelor degree with Honours or equivalent

or

where the applicant can demonstrate extensive professional experience and the capacity to undertake original doctoral-level research in a professional setting.

 

Admission Requirements from 1/1/2015: International applicants must provide evidence of an IELTS score of at least 7 in each band

It is desirable that the student have a minimum of five years health industry related experience.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The Doctor of Health Science (Clinical Leadership and Management) is a three year full time. Students will be required to complete 120 credit points over 4 units. Students will also complete a doctoral thesis in which they report a substantial programme of research that is relevant to clinical leadership and management  in the community and, or healthcare setting.  The research component accounts for two thirds of the course.
