S74 Graduate Certificate of Education (Early Childhood Studies)

The Graduate Certificate of Education (Early Childhood Studies) is designed and timetabled to meet the needs of primary teachers who wish to have a recognised qualification to teach in early childhood settings (Birth to Pre-primary). This Graduate Certificate is suitable to articulate into the Master of Education course. The course of study is designed to extend the skills and pedagogical understandings of teachers in early childhood education.

 

This is a fee paying course.

 

Professional Practice: All students must supply evidence of a current National Police History Check from the Department of Education WA before commencing their placement. Application forms and further information are available at http://www.det.wa.edu.au/screening/detcms/portal/

 

In addition, all students 18 years of age and over, must provide evidence of a current, valid Working with Children Check from the Department of Child Protection WA or show proof of application before commencing their placement. Further information can be found at: http://www.checkwwc.wa.gov.au

 

All Professional Practices are undertaken on a full-time basis and teaching students are required to give a full-time commitment to the school during the scheduled Professional Practice period.

 
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Admission to this course requires the completion of a three or four year primary teaching qualification or equivalent i.e., a Bachelor of Education (Primary) or a Graduate Diploma of Education (Primary).  International applicants require an Academic IELTS overall band minimum score of 7.0 (no individual band less than 6.5)

With the needs of current educators in mind, classes occur outside of standard school hours such as weekends and occur during traditional school terms holidays such as Summer and Winter sessions.
 
COURSE STRUCTURE

The Graduate Certificate of Education (Early Childhood Studies) is a 60 credit point (four units) part-time award. The course has two components:

  • 45 credit points (3) on-campus theory units and
  • 15 credit points (1) professional practice unit.
