EDS4130 Middle Years Education

Description:

This unit introduces students to the philosophy and practices of middle schooling, from the perspective of the young adolescent learner, the school and the teacher. Middle schooling is based on an educational philosophy that promotes authentic learning through constructivist teaching, collaborative learning and the development of schools with open, inclusive communities. In the unit, students will learn how schools and teachers can apply these principles in order to meet the young adolescent learner’s needs for belonging, engagement, identity, and independence. Students will also consider cultural, organisational, and professional factors that may enhance or impede the success of middle schooling.
