MUE1001 Teaching Jazz

Description:

In this unit, students will be introduced to various methodologies and conventions associated with the teaching of jazz and jazz practices, and their pedagogical implications both for task design and the wider Curriculum Framework, with particular regard to the new Post Compulsory courses. Students will examine in detail the rich resources available in this area, and as part of the teaching/learning process, have opportunities to examine the role of the jazz musician within solo, support, combo and larger ensemble settings. The unit will also focus upon direction of jazz ensembles with particular reference to stylistic, contextual and interpretive considerations in both the classroom and ensemble settings.
