IAS2106 Indigenous Sporting Histories in Australia

Description:
This unit investigates the identity of Australia as a sporting nation and how this identity has been informed by Indigenous sports people. Through the context of sport, this unit seeks to critique cultural, social and political themes that have impacted on Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians historically. Students will explore and engage with constructions of Indigenous sporting identities, racism in sport, the discourse of struggle and resistance through sport, reconciliation and celebrity.
