DEV4106 Public Display Design

Description:

This unit will undertake a study of the conditions and influences leading to the development of contemporary museum and gallery interiors and will analyse traditional and contemporary display design. Displays must act as a bridge between the experience and research of the specialist and the life experiences of the viewer. The aim is to find the story behind the object so that the visitor does not feel excluded. Students will examine the roles of communication, media and technology in creating experiential and educational displays. Design issues critical to exhibition work will be covered as well as issues of lighting, controlled atmosphere, security and risk management, display devices and units will be studied.
