IAS3107 Policing in Indigenous Communities

Description:

This unit provides an overview of the history and culture of Indigenous Australians, evaluates different explanations for the disproportionate contact between Indigenous people and the criminal justice system, outlines the meaning and practice of racism, and discusses a range of practical measures to improve police – Indigenous relations. While it includes historical and theoretical issues, the unit emphasises the practical skills that police officers can develop through increased knowledge of Indigenous communities.
