| This unit develops the basic framework for understanding human behaviour within a developmental and social context. It explores stages in human development from a psychodynamic perspective, and social and cultural factors influencing the ways in which problems are presented to the counsellor for assistance. Attention is given to issues of gender, ethnicity and sexual preference. The continuum between normal and abnormal behaviour is explored, and consideration is given to basic ethical issues facing counsellors in professional practice. Full Unit Outline | |||
