Analysis and interpretation of tourism data is important for the successful management and marketing of all tourism businesses. Managers in all facets of tourism increasingly need to understand research and basic statistics in order to effectively manage their operations as well as predict and plan for the future. This unit provides a basic introduction to research planning and design, including data collection and analysis techniques used in tourism research. The unit draws on the resources of the Bureau of Tourism Research in the form of the electronic publication on compact disk – “Monitor of Tourism Activity” (MOTA) – for the purposes of conducting applied analysis in selected domestic and international tourism markets.
