Description:
Within the Graduate Diploma of Education, the unit SSE4129 Teaching Society and Environment is the core curriculum unit for teaching in the Society and Environment Area in primary schools in Western Australia. This unit investigates the nature and scope of the Society and Environment Learning Area within the context of the WA Curriculum Framework; analyses the structure, content and use of the Western Australian Social Studies K-10 Syllabus materials; examines inquiry oriented teaching strategies and learning activities for developing conceptual understandings, issues based approaches, processes and skills, and core values underpinning the active citizenship outcome; identifies a range of Society and Environment teaching and learning resources; examines techniques for monitoring and reporting the level of achievement of outcomes, and introduces a model for long term planning within an outcomes based curriculum.
