PAM1102 Visual Fundamentals 2
WESTERN AUSTRALIAN ACADEMY OF PERFORMING ARTS
Credit Points: 15

Description:

Visual Fundamentals 2 advances the work carried out in Visual Fundamentals 1 in an attempt to stimulate a more personal approach to subject matter and drawing language. This is done initially by a series of workshop activities which develop research drawing through an involvement with processes and techniques in studio areas. These studio projects are brief introductions and should be seen more in terms of possibilities and potential than as a firm grounding in studio activity. It is important, however, to embrace all areas regardless of intended specialisation, and respond to all methods of delivery in two and three dimensions.

This comprehensive experience spanning drawing, process and technique through drawing and development, and work produced in specialist workshops, should now stimulate a more personal approach to drawing methods in the final part of the project. On return to studios, the knowledge gained should enable students to resolve and clarify direction, be selective in terms of media and techniques and promote an individual and ambitious attitude to their work.

The cycle of drawing from research, the interaction with processes and regenerating from this experience, attempts to examine in depth the student’s dialogue with subject matter through a visual language. The final work should demonstrate this and make the students aware of possibilities and solutions which might normally lie outside their chosen area of specialisation.
