Description:
This unit extends the introduction to the teaching and learning of secondary school mathematics provided by the unit MSE2150. Contributions made to the theory of teaching and learning mathematics by writers such as Ausubel, Bishop, Burton, Dienes, Hart, Polya, Shuard, Skemp, and Steffe will be examined. Students will be involved in planning sequences of lessons, and will prepare arguments for introducing 'investigations' and/or 'problem solving' as vehicles for teaching mathematics. Students will also address the issue of assessment in secondary school mathematics.
