ECF6115 Financial Markets and Institutions
SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
Credit Points: 20

Description:

The objective of the unit is to develop in students the ability to understand the complex interactions that can occur between the various parts of a country’s financial markets. To this end, five main financial markets will be focused on in this unit: money markets, debt markets, equity markets, foreign exchange markets and derivative markets. Students will develop a thorough understanding of the key concepts underlying each of these markets, as well as the links between them. Because governments have been looking to increase their regulation of these markets in recent years, students will be expected to explain the key issues involved in the debate on regulation. The Global Financial Crisis has highlighted the way that these markets can interact and students will be expected to appreciate how these markets are likely to evolve in future years.
