PLS6614 Extended Professional Learning: Professional Roles of Secondary Teachers
SCHOOL OF EDUCATION
Credit Points: 15

Description:

This unit provides instruction and opportunity for reflection upon the connection between pedagogy, assessment and the overall teaching programme of high schools in Australia.

The unit addresses a range of topics, including multiliteracies and associated technologies, including computer-based technologies; assessment of student progress; risk management, the WACOT Code of Ethics and the law; and ‘out of class’ responsibilities of teachers. It also considers ways in which beginning teachers can access ongoing Professional Development, mentoring and other agencies to help them acquire skills necessary to become exemplary professional teachers.

The unit is also concerned with the critical application of approaches to the processes of reviewing, developing, and implementing educational resources. Students will develop a praxis of understanding, competence in the application of technologies for the development of educational resources including the application of current thinking, and principles of instructional design in a secondary school context.
