SCHOOL OF EDUCATION
Credit Points: 15

Description:

This unit is designed to enable students to develop knowledge, skills and understanding to reflect upon the teaching and learning of emergent literacy in a range of early childhood contexts (0-5yrs). It enables students to research and evaluate their own learning as well as the pedagogy of emergent literacy. The unit focuses on planning, teaching and assessing emergent literacy through a socially just, responsive and differentiated curriculum.  Students will develop partnerships with early years educators in order to develop leadership skills to promote emergent literacy, as a means of closing the literacy achievement gap in early childhood. A range of current emergent literacy literature will be used to inform emergent literacy pedagogy and practice.
