AED4265 Drumming Fun for Social Learning: The Holyoake DRUMBEAT Program

Description:

In this unit students will learn how to use hand drumming and percussion exercises to engage school aged pupils in social learning. The DRUMBEAT program is designed to increase school aged pupils' social skills, teamwork skills and raise self esteem.  This unit is designed for students with minimal or no musical background. Through students' participation in practical workshops they will learn to utilise five major components: rhythm songs; rhythm games and discussion topics; as well as improvisation and performance. Students will also explore the theory and application of developing a therapeutic relationship with pupils in managing challenging behaviours. On completion of this unit students will receive Holyoake’s provisional DRUMBEAT facilitator status on top of the 15 credit points gained towards their degree.
