MIS5240 Collaborative Web Tools in Business
SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
Credit Points: 15

Description:

This unit is an introduction to the suite of collaborative “social” software (also known as “Web 2.0”) which has emerged on the Internet over the past 5 – 10 years. This software, which includes Wikis, Blogs, Social Networking, Social Tagging and Really Simple Syndication (RSS), has great potential for organisational knowledge management, innovation, customer relationship, citizen participation and project management. We introduce students to the economic and social foundations of these tools, the strategic opportunities they embody and their functional capabilities.  Students will use open source and free online sites such as Google Sites, Ning and Blogger.com and learn how to plan, evaluate, design, implement and administer Web 2.0 spaces and information flows for sustained use within and beyond the organisation.
