GHS1101 Developmental Gerontology
SCHOOL OF PSYCHOLOGY AND SOCIAL SCIENCE
Credit Points: 15

Description:

This introductory unit in gerontology provides an overview of ageing and its social, economic and political implications for the community. The discipline of Gerontology is explored, to understand the range of explanatory theories of ageing. The demography of ageing populations, local and global, is examined, so as to identify the needs, vulnerabilities, and prospects of ageing and aged populations. Students thus develop a personal philosophy of working with the aged and an appreciation of the human service programs designed to serve seniors.
