ESL1007 University English: Society

Description:
The general aim of the unit is to expose the student of non-English speaking background to types and varieties of spoken and written discourse, communicative functions, and conceptual activities related to the theme, 'Society' and its sub-themes, for example, 'economics', 'the youth culture', and 'politics'. More specifically, the aim of ESL1007 is to assist the student developing greater facility in the four macroskills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) as well as in such study skills as note-taking, library research and reading for inferencing as these relate to 'academic English'.
