EDM3100 Teaching Indigenous and Multicultural Children
SCHOOL OF EDUCATION
Credit Points: 15

Description:
The purpose of this unit is to develop skills for teaching Indigenous children. In order to fulfil this purpose, teachers require substantial knowledge of the social, historical and linguistic contexts within which the education of Indigenous and multicultural children occurs.

The focus of the unit is on a critical examination of factors that contribute to the education of Indigenous children, and children from other cultures. These factors include a major emphasis on the role of the school, including teachers, in structuring the experiences of children. The contribution that teachers can make to the improvement of educational outcomes for Indigenous children is emphasised throughout the unit.
