CSI4102 Computer Security

Description:
This unit covers the threats to computer systems and the countermeasures that can be put in place to minimise these. The areas covered are: aims of computer security and general threats; computer security threats; malicious code including viruses, trojan horses, worms and other forms of hostile executable code; the history and fundamental concepts of encryption; current encryption techniques and the social issues that surround the use of such techniques; current encryption related techniques that can be used for ensuring integrity and authenticity of digital objects as well as enforcing non-repudiation and copy control; identification, authentication and authorisation measures including passwords, tokens and biometrics; eavesdropping threats including compromising EMR emissions; network and internet security issues; PC and operating system security issues; current types of attacks and vulnerabilities.
