This unit introduces the student to the fundamental principles and techniques of aural and their application within a jazz context. Basic skills will be developed through an examination of the fundamental musical elements of intervals, scales, chords, rhythm, chord progressions and melody. Basic vocal skills will be developed to support and apply the underpinning theoretical constructs, with singing and dictation being the primary tools for internalising each area of study. Commonalities and specialties of a variety of different musical conventions will be examined and contextualised. Full Unit Outline | |||
