IST1141 Information Agencies and Environment

Description:

This unit provides an introduction to the concept of information and processes through which it is transferred in society. It considers the different kinds of information agencies that exist, including libraries, and the roles played by information workers in these agencies. Socio-political and technological trends that shape information services are discussed such as access, equity, privacy, censorship, broadband and ubiquitous computing. This unit includes a two week practicum in an information agency.
