Utilising theme-based and task-based approaches, this Japanese language unit aims at developing the four language skills in an integrated way within the context of Japanese ‘Society’. Japanese society has been changing considerably since the twentieth century while maintaining its traditional values. A unique mixture of westernisation and tradition can be observed in aspects such as Japanese family roles, women in Japan, youth culture, lifestyle, education and the workforce. The unit will focus on selected issues, including those mentioned above, through the study of academic texts, magazines, newspapers, TV programs and significant internet sites.
