The nutrition major in the Bachelor of Health Science (K97) comprises 240 credit points (16 units). This major is designed to provide students with an understanding of the known nutrients and the non-nutrient substances in food, the assessment of nutritional status, nutritional needs during the lifecycle, community nutrition issues, the psychology and sociology of food habits and current controversies in nutrition. A 16-unit major in nutrition prepares graduates for work as Corporate or Community Nutritionists and is the undergraduate pathway to the Master of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Students who select the 16-unit nutrition major but who do NOT wish to be eligible for entry into the Master of Nutrition&Dietetics, may make the following three unit substitutions:
HST2220 Health Promotion, Planning and Administration instead of SCC2211 Organic Chemistry IAS3100 Indigenous Health instead of SCH2232 Medical Biochemistry HST3502 Health Sciences Professional Practices instead of SCH3434 Human Development, Reproduction and Ageing.
Careers Community Nutritionist, Corportate Nutritionist, Research Nutritionist, Sports Nutritionist, Child Health Nutritionist, Health Promotion Nutritionist, Healthy Lifestyle Nutritionist, Aged Care Nutritionist. This 16-unit major enables the graduate to be eligible to apply for entry to post graduate courses in Dietetics.
