MSM2111 Museum History, Principles and Practices

Description:
This unit introduces students to the development of the modern museum, the origin of systematic and taxonomic collections, public museums and the new museology. It investigates the roles and functions of museums in contemporary society including current preventive conservation principles as well as cataloguing and documenting collections. The role and formulation of collection policies will also be considered.
