A94 Advanced Diploma of Music (Contemporary)

This nationally recognised qualification is designed for musicians who wish to pursue a career as performers, songwriters, producers and as a solo artist. This performance-based course centres on ensemble studies, where students develop instrumental and vocal performance skills. Students receive classes in song‑writing, music production, studio session skills, music history, theory, rhythm, aural and second study classes.

Applicants apply directly to WAAPA.

 
SPECIAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Admission is based on audition and interview. Students are assessed on performance at an audition, a written test and school or post-secondary academic record. A minimum music standard equivalent to Grade VI practical and Grade V theory (AMEB) is desirable. Information relating to the audition requirements is available from WAAPA. It is expected that applicants would normally have achieved a level of education equivalent to completion of Year 10.

COURSE STRUCTURE

This qualification is from the Music Training Package CUS09. Unit selection and delivery are designed to reflect and meet the needs of the music industry.

 

These VET Units of Competence are clustered within the WAAPA course delivery units using the industry terms: Ensemble, Songwriting-Arranging, Studio Skills, Professional Management, Concert Practice, Electronic Music, Media Performance, Aural, Copyright, History, OH&S, Second Study, and Theory/Rhythm/Improvisation. Details of the specific delivery arrangement for each unit of competence are available from the relevant Course Coordinator or the Program Director. 
 
Successful students graduate with both a Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Music after two years full time study.
