I44 Master of Criminology and Justice

The Master of Criminology and Justice is designed to offer guided study to help generate new knowledge and understandings of how to manage complex social issues related to policing, justice and security.  Issues from simple law enforcement to complex social management are explored.

 

This course supports the student in preparing a 10,000 word paper that shows competence in research and writing. The paper will demonstrate theoretical coherence, appropriate use of a research method, ethical understandings of conduct and data collection, correct analysis of data, appropriate conclusions and its relevance to justice, criminology, compliance or law enforcement. Learning will be independent and supervision will be in group and individual settings.

 
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor degree in Criminology and Justice or closely related field; or
  • Bachelor degree in a different field plus at least two years of appropriate professional experience.

 

Applicants who do not meet admission requirements to this course may be eligible to apply for the Graduate Certificate of Criminology and Justice.

This course is available on Joondalup Campus.

This course is available in the following modes of delivery - On-campus, and Online.
 
COURSE STRUCTURE

Students must complete a minimum of 180 points (10 units).  Students are encouraged to seek guidance from the Course Coordinator when choosing Stage 1 units.

 

 
STAGE 1
CRI5601 Essential Communication Skills for Justice Practice 15
CRI5602 Justice Policy Development and Evaluation 15
CRI5603 Pivotal Issues in Criminology and Justice 15
Plus one elective approved by course coordinator.
OR
Four (4) post graduate units as approved by the Course Coordinator.
 
Students are unable to proceed to Stage 2 until all of the Stage 1 units are completed.
 
STAGE 2
MKT5704 Qualitative Research Methods 15
MKT5705 Quantitative Research Methods 15
OR two equivalent research methods units by arrangement with the course coordinator.
Plus
CRI5115 Independent Study in Criminology and Justice 15
AND one level 5 elective unit by arrangement with the course coordinator.
 
Students are unable to proceed to Stage 3 until all of the Stage 2 units are completed
 
STAGE 3
CRI5610 Master of Criminology and Justice Project Development 30 
CRI5620 Master of Criminology and Justice Project 30 
 
Students who are unable to complete the course and have completed 120 credit points (8 units) from the units listed above may be eligible to exit with a Graduate Diploma in Crimonology and Justice with Course Coordinator approval.

OR

Students who are unable to complete the course and have completed 60 credit points (4 units) from the units listed above may be eligible to exit with a Graduate Certificate in Criminology and Justice with Course Coordinator approval.
