Language is a fascinating human tool that is important to everyone every day and linguistics is the study of language. This unit will discuss how languages work, how languages are learned, how languages and dialects differ and how speakers, situations and contexts shape language and meanings. It will investigate how language operates socially and communicatively, through analysis of the structural, cultural, pragmatic and functional aspects of langauge.
