Description: | |||
This unit develops the fundamental helping skills required by human service workers in community settings. The counselling process is based on a lifeskills helping model. Issues include: establishing an appropriate helping environment, clarifying, exploring problems, setting realistic goals, closing a helping exchange, and referral procedures. The distinction between advocacy, mediation, helping and counselling will also be addressed. Exploration of the worker's own values and attitudes is considered an essential component. Students who have completed COU3205 are not eligible to enrol in CSV3103. Full Unit Outline | |||
