The Bachelor of Arts course at ECU enables you to pursue your passion and career goals simultaneously. You will have a unique opportunity to design a cross-disciplinary course according to your personal interests, perhaps in creative writing from the perspective of a deep commitment to ecological issues, or a future in political journalism, underpinned by expertise in a second language such as Japanese. The course structure enables you to combine Arts subjects with either another Major from any University discipline or a series of electives, from the sciences to business, law and psychology. We also encourage work-related placement. To help you create exactly the undergraduate experience you want for your anticipated professional life, we provide ongoing, professional support throughout your undergraduate course.

Applicants for the advanced language majors will require WACE 3A/3B, or equivalent language skills in the relevant language.

There are additional special conditions for entry into the Japanese Major or Minor:

Native speakers of Japanese who have completed their compulsory education in Japan and/or in a Japanese educational institution overseas (i.e., six years at primary and three years at junior high school) are not eligible to enrol in a Japanese Major or Minor. Other background speakers of Japanese may be requested to complete two Lingusitics (LST) units instead of JLS1165 and JLS1275 as part of their Major or Minor.

The Bachelor of Arts degree is a 360 credit point (24 unit) award, structured as follows:

1. A foundation program of 30 credit points (2 units) in the first year;
2. A Major program of 120 credit points (8 units) at first and upper level (Majors are listed below);
3. A Minor program of 75 credit points (5 units) at first and upper level (Minors are listed below);
4. A capstone unit (15 credit points) in the final semester to prepare students for pathways into work or further research.

Plus:

120 credit points (8 units) of electives, which may be electives from across the University, or students can choose a second Major.
