| This unit focuses on the woman's experiences of health within the childbearing period influenced by historical, socio-political, cultural and economic factors. The philosophies, traditions and historical context shaping nursing and midwifery praxis as well as emerging trends such as partnership models, woman centred care and empowerment are covered. Students acquire knowledge of legislation and ethical codes of practice that guide nursing and midwifery. Supported by clinical practice, students begin to explore midwifery-led models of care for women anticipating an uncomplicated pregnancy and birth.
